LEFTHANDED OR RIGHTHANDED ?
All our boomerangs will work, regardless of which is your dominant hand. Only the throwing technique is different based on which hand you use
Pre-Flight Check
Before you begin, ensure you have a safe environment.
- Find a proper area: Only throw over grass or sand. Do not throw over concrete, asphalt, or near trees, as hard impacts can damage your boomerang.
- Check the Wind: The best conditions are a light breeze (1–3 m/s). Do not throw in winds exceeding 5 m/s, or the boomerang may balloon and drift dangerously.
- Spatial Requirements: Ensure you have a radius of at least 50 to 100 meters (approx. 100 yards) of open space.
- Spectator Safety: Bystanders must stand behind you and slightly to the left. Never allow anyone inside the throwing circle.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR RIGHTHANDED THROWERS
The Grip (The “Pinch”)
Hold the boomerang vertically. The decorated/rounded side must face YOU (towards your face), and the flat side must face AWAY from you.
- Pinch the wingtip firmly between your thumb and index finger, as if you are holding a key or a pen.
The Wind Direction
Face the wind directly. Now, turn your body 45° to the right.
- You are not throwing into the wind, but 45° to the right of the wind.
The Angle (The “1:00 PM” Position)
NEVER throw sidearm like a Frisbee. This is the #1 mistake!
- Hold your arm straight out.
- Tilt the boomerang slightly to the right (about 5 to 15 degrees).
- Imagine a clock face where 12:00 is vertical; your boomerang should be tilted to the 1:00 o’clock position.
The Aim
Pick a reference point on the horizon (like a distant treetop or building).
- Aim straight out at eye level.
- Do not throw it up towards the sky, or it will swoop up and crash down.
The Throw (Spin is King!)
Bring the boomerang back behind your head and snap it forward.
- The Secret: It is not about throwing hard; it is about throwing with SPIN.
Just before release, give a sharp flick of your wrist (like cracking a whip or snapping a towel). This spin creates the lift needed for the return.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEFTHANDED THROWERS
Your boomerang has a flat side and a rounded side. Hold your boomerang with a loose grip, like a pen, with the flat side facing you.”
You must throw the boomerang at 45° to 60° to the right of the wind.
Hold the boomerang at shoulder height. It must leave your hand in this position, slightly tilted (5o to 15o) towards the right.
Aim at a point directly in front of you, the trunk of a tree for example.
Throw the boomerang loosely, opening your arm. Just before letting go, sharply jerk your wrist to spin it.
SAFETY TIPS
- Find a large open area. You will need to find a large open space where you can safely throw your boomerang without losing it or accidentally hitting other people. In general, you will want an area where you have at least 35 meters (115 feet) of space on all sides. Football fields, soccer pitches, open park spaces and empty beaches are all good options. Make sure there are not too many trees or bushes for your boomerang to get caught in.
- Watch out for weather conditions. Wind is one of the most important factors in the proper return of a boomerang. Ideally, you want a nice, calm day, with winds between 0 and 4 m/s (between 0 and 9 mph). Avoid throwing your boomerang in anything above a medium wind, as it will distort the path of the boomerang and throw it off course.
- Throw the boomerang at the appropriate position, as specified in Step 3 of the throwing instructions. One of the biggest mistakes is throwing a boomerang tilted towards the right more than 30o or throwing it like a frisbee (horizontally). In this situation, a boomerang can swoop straight up into the sky and dive back at you very steep and fast, which can cause serious injury to you or anyone nearby.
- Age recommendation. Boomerangs are sports equipment that should be used only by an adult or by youth under the supervision of an adult.
