Your First Throw in 4 Steps

  1. Grip: pinch one wing tip, with the decorated side facing you.
  2. Wind: face the wind, then turn about 45° to the right.
  3. Angle: hold the boomerang almost upright (1 o’clock) and aim at eye level.
  4. Throw: snap your wrist for a lot of spin, then catch it flat between both hands.

Beginner Boomerangs: Questions and Answers

Which beginner boomerang should I choose?

All four are made for first throws. For the classic shape, choose Golden Swallow. For a light 3-wing boomerang that is easy to catch, choose Seerblade or Hurricane.

Can children throw a beginner boomerang?

Boomerangs are sports equipment, not toys. We recommend them for teens 14+ and adults. Any minor must throw under adult supervision.

How much space do I need?

These boomerangs fly a 16–20 m circle, but you still need a large open area, such as a football field or an open park, with at least 50–100 m of open space on all sides. Never throw near trees, roads or people.

Can left-handed people throw them?

Yes. Left-handers throw the same boomerang with the left hand. The flat side faces you, and the wind angle and tilt stay the same. See the left-handed steps.

What if my boomerang does not come back?

The most common reasons are a flat, frisbee-style throw, too little wrist spin and the wrong angle to the wind. Our guide Why your boomerang is not coming back shows the quick fixes.

When should I move to a sport boomerang?

When you catch most of your throws and want more range, try a sport model such as Skybreaker, which flies 25–30 m. See our intermediate boomerangs.
